Liverpool is one of those cities that just gets under your skin—in the best way possible. It’s got that perfect mix of history, music, and football culture, where every street seems to hum with stories. Walking along the Albert Dock or through Stanley Park or Anfield Road, you can feel the energy of a place that’s always evolving but never loses its soul. And of course, there’s the music—The Beatles may be the headliners, but the city’s soundtrack is so much deeper. Whether you’re here for the football, the nightlife, or just a proper Scouse welcome, Liverpool never disappoints.
The Cavern Club
Last time I was in Liverpool, I made a stop at The Beatles Story, an immersive exhibit that walks you through the rise of the Fab Four—from their early days in Hamburg to the height of Beatlemania. It was a deep dive into the band’s legacy, but this time, I wanted to experience the energy where it all began. That led me to the world-famous Cavern Club, tucked four levels below Mathew Street, where the walls practically pulse with rock ‘n’ roll history. Standing in that intimate, brick-lined space, it’s easy to imagine a young John, Paul, George, and Ringo playing to packed crowds, long before they took over the world. The atmosphere is electric, with live music still filling the club daily, proving that Liverpool’s musical heartbeat is as strong as ever.
This Is Anfield
This was my second time visiting Liverpool and Anfield. However, it was my first time back since 2018 and my first time watching a live match. The experience was incredible. From the time to the Uber approached Anfield stadium until the final Carling was sipped an hour after the match at a neighborhood front yard converted into a LFC hangout and bar. It was everything I thought it would be and so much more.
The Liverpool gift shop was immense and full of new and old memorabilia and souvenirs for all to bring home—even replica jerseys from days past—just a great vibe inside and outside the stadium all day and night.
Watching Liverpool’s match against Southampton on Saturday, I experienced a rollercoaster of emotions. The first half was frustrating, with the team looking sluggish and conceding a goal just before the break due to a miscommunication between Alisson and Van Dijk. However, the second half showcased the team’s resilience. Darwin Núñez’s quick equalizer and his earned penalty, coolly converted by Mohamed Salah, turned the tide. Salah’s second penalty sealed the 3-1 victory, extending our lead at the top of the table to 16 points. It’s performances and fans like these that make me proud to be a Liverpool supporter. Thank you Bryson, my friend that got me into LFC back in the days of Michael Owen.
Gerry and the Pacemakers
Yes, Gerry and the Pacemakers might always be mentioned in the same breath as The Beatles, but they carved out their own place in Liverpool’s musical legacy. Their songs have this timeless, feel-good quality—whether it’s the Merseybeat energy of How Do You Do It? or the sentimental pull of Ferry Cross the Mersey. And, of course, You’ll Never Walk Alone isn’t just a song; it’s an anthem that sends chills down the spine of every Liverpool FC supporter every time we hear it.
My favorite song? Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying.
Playlist: The Mersey Beat
I don’t have the time to create my own playlist this week but here’s a great one all about the Liverpool music scene and the Mersey Beat.
I’m headed to London where I’ll spend the week visiting friends, going to museums, record shops, bookstores, and attending a few live shows— I look forward to recapping this trip next week. #YNWA
